To grow as an artist, I've taken a jump into this online course conducted by Allan McKay. Since, the course is based on Max and couple of plugins, I'll need to become even more familiar with it now. I'm mainly a maya user but I can get around with max.<br />
<br />
I'm writing the post here as I must document my progress. This blog will act as a place for me to upload my assignments and any other stuff I will be doing.<br />
<br />
The first three weeks is all about scripting. I have to go through the tutorials a few times. I'm already alittle slow on this. Time to catch up and get up to speed.<br />

<br />
After reading this article, I decided improve my digital sketching. So, I started this challenge. Here is the result.<br />
<br />
The drawings were created using the free digital painting software called krita.<br />
https://krita.org/<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHJgJT0bKiXAFd8ISdlLHwxzw_qOhin9MEvxmlX4V1gSyOJjmLEzzwhSK9oT15x0Kip6X8KyHnYetYmAM2DIxEI2N5ugx2Qwi6S0zaVtBROEYUwALQ0R_MsPwl5kJs2TSZDS17W_J5guk/s1600/Krita_Digital_Sketches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHJgJT0bKiXAFd8ISdlLHwxzw_qOhin9MEvxmlX4V1gSyOJjmLEzzwhSK9oT15x0Kip6X8KyHnYetYmAM2DIxEI2N5ugx2Qwi6S0zaVtBROEYUwALQ0R_MsPwl5kJs2TSZDS17W_J5guk/s1600/Krita_Digital_Sketches.jpg" height="400" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Also, I limited myself to 30 min everyday for these. But I'm afraid I might have gone over that in some of these sketches. But some days, they just were not looking right. Anyway, I must keep continuing.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Still learning blender. But maybe my graphics card (GTX 580) is old. It was just one geo with array and displace modifier. Then the shader was using translucent bsdf, fresnel and ggx glossy shader. It still took an hour to render using the final preset in the render settings. There is still noise and I dont think I want to wait even longer for such a simple scene.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, It was gonna take two hours to render the dof in camera so I played around with the Defocus node in blender compositing. Need to read up on speeding the cycles rendering and go in depth with the material system in blender.</div>

Working on the previous scene and added some color to the shaders. There are no textures at the moment. Did a quick render and comped it in ae. It seems I forgot to add the shader on the apple leaf.<br />

Been doing some shader testing. Its way too much easier to do the same thing vray compared to mental ray. Here's my result so far. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhuvaIwOgv83AMUlKeiEJjfp7GBd2d4ltAhdEhmKkyncMrjVYdLpUBuf1gQYreJZeMPA3P_yDfFFEHTbzwyTwTOPq11ZxvsMjW-mxteWjR19EJczXiLU_X0DnkIdM_eNqH-Qt2oJfiVmU/s1600/shaders_comparison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhuvaIwOgv83AMUlKeiEJjfp7GBd2d4ltAhdEhmKkyncMrjVYdLpUBuf1gQYreJZeMPA3P_yDfFFEHTbzwyTwTOPq11ZxvsMjW-mxteWjR19EJczXiLU_X0DnkIdM_eNqH-Qt2oJfiVmU/s640/shaders_comparison.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Vray BlendMtl and Vray Bump Mtl used to combine scratch shader, rust shader and paint shader in vray.<br />
In mentalray, I used mib_color_mix and mia_material_x_passes to combine scratch shader, rust shader and paint shader.</div>
